Boardrocks
Freeform images of rocks and stones painted onto cut, plywood boards.
Recently, this fascination crossed paths with the Japanese artform of Suiseki. As defined, Suiseki stones are naturally shaped rocks that are appreciated and displayed for their aesthetic value. Crossed further with the other Japanese concept of Wabi-Sabi, which prioritizes the natural imperfections and the cycles of life found in nature, stones are seen as objects that express perfection through their imperfection. My intent is to display these stones in compositional arrangements that create two-dimensional painted objects unhindered by the traditional geometric framework of traditional media.
